Dr. Ana Dumitru, online counsellor

About me

Dr. Ana Dumitru

I am an HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist offering psychological counselling sessions online, in English. I believe that having a safe, consistent space to talk can make a meaningful difference, whatever you're going through.

I have worked in the mental health field for almost a decade, across a range of clinical, educational and research roles, leading to a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Edinburgh. As a Clinical Psychologist, I have worked with a range of individuals and presentations, including complex trauma (cPTSD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), borderline personality disorder (BPD), generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), major depressive disorder (MDD), neurodivergence (ADHD and ASD), and many more. My clinical psychology training and roles gave me experience across a range of evidence-based modalities, including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), schema therapy, compassion-focused therapy (CFT), and interpersonal therapy (IPT). These inform the integrative approach I bring to sessions today.

Having lived in different countries since I was 18, I know firsthand the challenges around belonging and identity that come with living abroad. I also practise visual arts, which have often offered me comfort, as well as the occasional creative anxiety. I am particularly interested in working with people navigating questions of identity, belonging, and creativity. I value openness, playfulness, humour, creativity and flexibility, and I try to bring these into my work. I, too, am human and understand that being a human is not always easy. This is why I do what I do.

My approach is person-centred and integrative, meaning I start with the person in front of me, not just a diagnosis, problem, or method, and I draw from different helpful approaches depending on what that person needs. Sessions are a space to think out loud without judgment about whatever is weighing on you, or what you want your life to feel like. I work alongside you in a collaborative way, with mutual understanding and empathy.

Please note: I offer psychological counselling and not medical input or psychotherapy as defined by German law. This means I do not diagnose or treat clinically significant mental health disorders, and I do not prescribe medication.
